Meet Lara
🌙 Founder: Lara Steele, PhD 🌙
Communications strategist, organizational anthropologist, and human architecture nerd.
I’ve spent my career inside organizations during their most fragile moments - restructures, RIFs, leadership transitions, scaling challenges, cultural shifts, and the quiet, heavy spaces before difficult decisions.
Across biotech, tech, academia, and nonprofits, I saw a clear pattern:
Organizations don’t break because of change. They break because of how poorly change is communicated.
My Background
15+ years leading communications, culture, and change initiatives
Head of Employee Experience & Change Management in global biotech
Builder of ERGs, DEIB frameworks, inclusive leadership tools
Architect of internal communications functions across industries
Advisor to founders, EDs, and leaders navigating threshold moments
Dual PhD researcher with a background in survey design and qualitative analysis
My work blends research, psychology, narrative, and a belief that clarity is a kindness we owe each other.
My Philosophy
Clarity is care. Information calms the nervous system.
Stories move people. Narrative is strategy.
Leaders shape the emotional climate. What goes unspoken becomes culture.
Change is identity work. For organizations and the people inside them.
This work shows up in practice - from transformation communications to narrative design and inclusive leadership guidance - so leaders and teams can move through complexity with coherence and care.
Why I Created Arcana
After years of guiding teams through change, I realized something: leaders shouldn’t have to carry the emotional architecture of transformation alone.
Arcana is the consulting practice I wished existed when I was the internal leader trying to hold everything steady - the ambiguity, the people, the narrative, the strategy, the fear.
Arcana exists to offer:
deep clarity during difficult moments
high-trust partnership for leaders in transition
meaning-centered communication for teams
accessible support for small companies and nonprofits
narrative design that honors the truth and the humans involved
This work is my craft, my discipline, and yes - my kind of magic.
